Kindergarten Van Gogh Sunflowers
This lesson is based on Vincent Van Gogh's beautiful still life paintings of sunflowers.
I introduced the lesson with showing students the many paintings of Van Gogh's sunflowers and the video on YouTube titled "Art With Mati and Dad-Van Gogh". The video is only around seven minutes long and it is perfect for this age.
I gave each student 4, 4 1/2" x 6" pieces of brown construction paper and demonstrated how to make sunflowers using orange, yellow, black and white tempera paint.
On the next day I demonstrated how to fold a 12' x 9" piece of yellow construction paper to make a vase. Make sure you walk around the room and check each vase before they cut! They glued the vase to a 12" x 18" piece of blue construction paper that I had glued a strip of orange 4 1/2" x 12" paper to the bottom. This saved so much time!
I provided brown strips of paper for the stems. Students cut out their flowers and assembled them into a beautiful still life! The last part was to add a little highlight with an oil pastel.
Thanks so much!
